Claudia Joy : Ohh. This is not okay, and you're damn lucky your father's already at work.
Amanda : Calm down. I'm fine. And I'm tired. I'm gonna go to bed.
Claudia Joy : Since when do you stay out all night and talk to me like this?
Amanda : I'm going through a lot right now, mom. Please just leave me alone.
Claudia Joy : I am still your mother, and I deserve an explanation.
Amanda : Okay. You want an explanation? I was out all night with jeremy... having sex. And yes,it was the first time. And I know you,and I know what you're gonna say, and I will not let you ruin this for me.

Katie : But dad said to eat a healthy breakfast.

Pamela : With 5 year olds?
Angie : Yeah.
Pamela : Interesting.

Pamela : Scott? What are you doing here?
Scott : Teaching. What are you doing here?
Angie : You two know each other?
Pamela : You could say that.
Scott : The last time I saw you,you were swinging a set of handcuffs and flashing a badge.
Pamela : Uh,yeah, well, the last time I saw you,you were living out of your van and...and selling watercolors in faneuil hall.
Angie : Do did you two date or...
Scott : No,no.
Pamela : Yeah,no,no. He was dating a friend of mine at the time... Hillary.
Scott : Actually,we got married.

Scott : Then we got divorced.
Pamela : Oh,my god. Again. I'm sorry.
Scott : It's okay. I got something great out of it. His name is John. I have him for the summers.
Pamela : So what are you doing here on post?
Scott : Yeah,I moved to charleston three years ago. I teach at the community college.
Angie : And speaking of teaching,I hate to break up this little reunion, but, scott, you and I have a class to teach.
Scott : Right.
Pamela : I better let you two get back to work.
Scott : Yeah. Okay.
FORT MARSHALL HOSPITAL – Nurse Class
Nurse Teacher : You guys doing okay? As you know, hip requires we use numbers rather than names. Also we have opaque acronyms for their conditions like,um... A.C.S. --Acute coronary syndrome, instead of H.A. Or M.I. Right. Uh,P.U.D.,C.V.A.,E.T.O.H.,Uh... ulcer, stroke, drunk, sugar. Per J.C.A.H.O.,You are required to assess patients' pain scale every two hours in addition to B.P.,Heart rate,B.P.M.,Temp by celsius and pulse ox. Any questions?
Denise : Yes,uh,how do we register all these on the charts?
Nurse Teacher : Um,honey, there are no charts. There haven't been charts for years. Uh,for example, flow sheets for vitals,E.K.G.S,med lists... everything is computerized. Now let's get you in some greens and see what you got.
EXT. LEBLANC’S HOME
Roxy : So last night Trevor was on top of me when Finn walked in.
Pamela : Oh,my god. What did you do?
Roxy : We said we were cold.
Pamela : And what did he say?
Roxy : He said it was summer. Can you beat that?
Pamela : No. I wish I could,but... You're talking about sex, right? I have vague memories of moaning and toes curling.
Roxy : Your toes curl?
Pamela : I didn't say mine. Hey,look on the bright side. At least you're having sex.
Roxy : Ah.
Pamela : Shh. Oh, I see your little peeping Finn has met a new friend.
Roxy : Yeah. His name's javier. His dad died.
Pamela : Aw.
Roxy : I mean, how do I prepare my kids to hear things like that?
Pamela : You can try,but you really can't prepare them for something like that... I mean, any more than you can prepare them for,you know, their first heartbreak... You know?
Roxy : Mm-hmm.
HOLDEN’S HOME – Living room
Michael : I just thought it would be fun to go back to that beautiful part of the country again. You loved that trip to yellowstone, Amanda. You talked about it for years.
Amanda : I had a lot of fun. I can't go. I have plans.
Michael : Plans?
Amanda : I'm going to visit Jeremy.
Michael : Jeremy?
Amanda : Mom didn't tell you?
Michael : Tell me what?
Amanda : I'm still seeing him.
Michael : And you knew about this, Claudia joy?
Claudia Joy : I just found out.
Amanda : I'm not going to Montana. I'm going to visit Jeremy at Fort Benning.
Michael : No,you're not. You are going with your family on a vacation. And if you have a problem with that, young lady, you can take it to your room.
FORT MARSHALL – Art Camp
Scott : So how the hell did you go from cop to army wife?
Pamela : Well, you know the story... girl meets soldier, girl gets pregnant, soldier says we can't have both parents being shot at all the time, so girl becomes an army wife.
Scott : Do you miss it?
Pamela : Yeah. Sometimes. But I've got two kids,so I still feel like a cop.
Scott : Angie?
Angie : Hmm?
Scott : You can go home.
Angie : Oh,no. I want to help.
Pamela : Uh,you know what? It is very late.
Scott : Yeah.
Pamela : So I have to get going. All right, kids, get your stuff. It is time to go.
Katie : Mommy, John wants to come over for microwave tonight.
Scott : "Microwave"?
Pamela : Um, in your house,i t's probably called "dinner.
John : Please!
Scott : Yes. Yes, you can go. You can go,john.
Pamela : All right,come on,get your stuff.
Scott : Hey,cops and robbers both need to watch out for cars.
Pamela : Got you,got you,got you,got you!
EXT. MARINO’S HOME
Roxy : Delores? I'm Roxy. I called earlier.
Delores : Oh,yes. Thank you for looking after Javier. Would you like to come in for a cup of coffee?
Roxy : Um...
Delores : Let them tire themselves out.
Roxy : I like the way you think. You have a beautiful home.
Delores : Thank you.
Roxy : Javier told me about his father. I'm so sorry.
Delores : We knew it could happen, you know? We just... we never thought it would happen to us.
Roxy : How's javier doing?
Delores : He's like me. You know, he has good days, and he has bad days. I'm sorry. Today's a really bad day.
Roxy : Do you need to get that?
Delores : No,it's okay.
Answerphone : Hi,you've reached the Marinos. Please leave a message, and we'll call you back. Mrs. Marino, this is Alvin Jennings from the housing authority again. Your move out is two days away,so we need to set up an appointment for the walk-through as soon as possible.
Roxy : Wow. You have to move?
Delores : Army policy. Widows are only allowed to stay on post for six months after a spouse dies.
Roxy : You're joking,right?
Delores : I wish. I need to get the house ready for the walk-through inspection on thursday.
Roxy : Wait. You're supposed to move out on thursday... like, in two days, thursday? Honey,I know I've only known you about a minute, but you need to get going on this.
Delores : I know. I know. Don't worry.
Roxy : Do you have anyone to help you? I'll get it done.
Delores : No. Diego died shortly after we moved in,so... I don't really know many people.
Roxy : Well, now you know me.
MORAN’S HOME – Living room
Scott : So I have to thank you for this pizza because it is the first radiation-free meal we've had in weeks.
Pamela : My pleasure. Oh,you have to tell me about your brother. Is he still certifiably insane?
Scott : Yes. Yep,and he just got reelected,so there you go.
Pamela : That's funny.
Scott : So this is... new.
Pamela : Uh,yeah,it's kind of a mess.
Scott : No,I like it. I like it longer.
Pamela : Thank you.
Scott : So I...I probably shouldn't say this, but I've been carrying it around for ten years.
Pamela : What? Now I'm scared.
Scott : Um... every time we were in the same room together,my knees would shake. But I was with Hillary, and you were with Joe. And I'm still mad at myself that I... didn't have the courage to tell you. I know... I know we can't go back there. But... if I had told you how I felt... it have made a difference?
Pamela : Yes.
LEBLANC’S HOME - Kitchen
Pamela : Nothing happened But... I wanted it to.
Roxy : You're allowed. You're married,not dead.
Pamela : Yeah. I've heard that one before. But this went into Marilyn territory. I mean, for the first time,I understood the whole affair thing. It's just hard, you know? With chase being gone right now,and... and I don't know when the hell he's coming back.
Roxy : So what is it about this guy?
Pamela : Well,I just keep thinking about his question. If he had told me how he felt back then,I would be a cop living in Boston married to an art teacher right now.
Roxy : Would we still have met somewhere in there?
Pamela : Oh,honey, yes. You and me,we're destined to be together. The scary thing is... he still gets to me,you know? I was this close to kissing him.
Roxy : I'm guessing you're telling me all this because you want me to talk you out of it.
EXT. CHARLESTON - Bar
Journalist : The premise of your book seems to be that science and spirituality are not mutually exclusive.
Roland : Exactly. I've found that patients with a firm belief system, whatever that may be,recover better from trauma than those without one.
Journalist : We want to believe we're connected to something greater.
Roland : But you'll make that sound better for the article, right?
Journalist : Of course.
Roland : Thanks. My wife says I come off sounding like shirley maclaine when I talk about my book.
Journalist : Don't worry. Your voice is much deeper.
Roland : You know my wife's a lieutenant colonel? She is the highest-ranking african-american female on this post.
Journalist : I did know that, and that's very impressive,but... we're here to talk about you. So tell me. Your father passed away when he was only 36 years old. Did that impact your decision to become a psychiatrist?
Roland : I see you've done your homework. Yes, I guess it did. His death came out of nowhere. There's no history of cancer in our family. My mother fell apart. I felt helpless to do anything. So yes, now I find it fulfilling to help other people make it through.
Journalist : And who helps you make it through?
SHERWOOD’S HOME – Living room
Denise : Amanda.
Amanda : Am I interrupting anything?
Denise : Oh,just me avoiding my life... and the third shelf of the refrigerator. Come on in.
Amanda : Is major sherwood here?
Denise : Oh,no. He's in washington,D.C. More,uh,follow-up on the helicopter crash.
Amanda : I just...I wanted to see how you were since Jeremy left on the bus.
Denise : Oh. Well... I'm all right.
Amanda : So you're okay?
Denise : Yeah. Thank you.
Amanda : How are you? I'm okay. I'll go now.
Denise : Oh,honey. What's wrong?
Amanda : I just never thought I would miss him so much. It's awful.
Denise : Come here.
FORT MARSHALL – Art Camp
Pamela : Guys, why didn't you meet me out front like I asked? Okay, forget it. Just get your stuff and meet me at the car.Fast.Quick.
Scott : Hey. Uh, Pammy,uh...
Pamela : Hey. I'm sorry. I...I don't mean to rude. I'm just in a hurry.
Scott : Well, wait. Just hold up one second. I shouldn't have said anything. It was a long time ago. I'm sorry.
Pamela : No,it's okay. It's forgotten.
Scott : Okay,so listen. Here's an idea that I think you're gonna like. John's begging me to have Katie and Lucas over for dinner tonight.
Pamela : Um,I can't. I'm...I'm busy.
Scott : No, no, not you. I'm gonna take care of the kids, and we're gonna have a sleepover.
Pamela : Okay, that is very sweet, but completely unnecessary.
Scott : No,really. It's fine. Enjoy your freedom.
Pamela : Really?
Scott : Really.
Pamela : Okay. Okay,then... thank you...a lot.
SHERWOD’S HOME - Kitchen
Denise : You okay there?
Amanda : Yeah. Oh,I can't believe I've been here all day. You rule the school, Denise.
Denise : Rule the school ? Well,it's funny you should say that, 'cause yesterday I completely embarrassed myself trying to go back to
school.
Amanda : What do you mean?
Denise : Well,I tried to go back to nursing. I was almost an R.N. When I quit the program to marry Frank. With jeremy gone,I thought I'd go back to work, finish what I started. But when I got there,I just felt completely lost.
Amanda : So you quit again?
Denise : Ouch. I hadn't thought of it that way,but,um, yeah,I guess I did.
Amanda : My mom told me how you delivered that lady's twins on a pool table.
Denise : That sounds more than nurse like to me.
Amanda : How did you do that?
Denise : I just did it without thinking. This has been great.
Amanda : Well, maybe you should stop thinking.
Denise : I have so much to draw from.
Amanda : Thank you for giving me the extra time.
Denise : Of course. I'm tired of hearing the sound of my own voice.
EXT. CHARLESTON - Bar
Roland : Tell me about you. What's your story?
Journalist : Well,um... my husband is a war correspondent. He's overseas...
Roland : Hey, hey, hey now. We're talking about you,not your husband.
Journalist : Touche. Um...well,what do you wanna know?
Roland : What do you wanna tell me?
Journalist : Why do you answer every question with a question?
Roland : I'm a psychiatrist.
Journalist : I'm a journalist.
Roland : Then we're gonna have a problem here.
Journalist : I guess it's safe to say both of us would rather be asking the quesldons.
Roland : Yeah.
Journalist : Why do you think that is?
Roland : We'd rather focus on someone else than ourselves?
Journalist : Why is that?
Roland : We're afraid of what we'll see?
Journalist : Are you?
Roland : Are you?
Journalist : Are you gonna bill me for this?
HOLDEN’S HOME – Living room
Claudia Joy : Colonel holden's residence.
Amanda : It's me,mom.
Claudia Joy : Where are you?
Amanda : I'm at Mrs.Sherwood's house.
Claudia Joy : You're at Denise's house?
Amanda : Yeah. We've been talking all day. Look... First, I want to apologize for getting so upset. And I've been thinking. I really want you guys to go on vacation,so I asked mrs.Sherwood if I could stay with her for the week while you're in montana, and she said yes.
Claudia Joy : Huh. Okay. Uh,let me think about that. Could you have Denise call me in the morning?
Amanda : Okay. I love you.
Claudia Joy : I love you,too.
CHARLESTON - Hotel
Roland : Thank you again.
Journalist : I really enjoyed meeting you.
Roland : I wish I could. But I can't.
Journalist : Well,I guess it's a good thing I'm... going back to new york tomorrow.
HONDEN’S HOME – Kitchen
Claudia Joy : That's very nice of you, Denise, but lately,a week with Amanda is a very long time.
Denise : Yeah, well, the offer still stands. She is a really great girl.
Claudia Joy : Thank you. I have to admit,I was a bit jealous that she turned to you instead of me
Denise : Oh? Jealous of me? Oh,come on! You remember what it was like at that age. Your...your mother's an idiot, everyone else walks on water.
Claudia Joy : Did she say I was an idiot?
Denise : Well, not in so many words... but, yeah, the water was a little shallow.
Claudia Joy : Oh,my god. Can you believe we have kids...18?
Denise : I still feel like I'm 18 myself, and then I look in the mirror, and it's not my friend.
Claudia Joy : I know what you mean.
Denise : Oh,my god. Listen to this.
Claudia Joy : What?
Denise : Okay. When I was 18, I used to steal my parents' car, go down to this nightclub in the city.
Claudia Joy : You did?
Denise : It was wild. Everything was going on. I loved every minute. to this day, they have no idea.
Claudia Joy : Okay. Wow. Well,I...I don't have a criminal past.
Denise : Oh,excuse me. but,you know what? We...we turned out okay... Sort of.
Claudia Joy : Yeah.
Denise : We just have to trust our kids will, too. Can you grab that?
Claudia Joy : Yeah.
Denise : Here you go.
Claudia Joy : Colonel holden's residence. Hi,roxy. Of course. No,I'll... I'll be right over. Okay.
EXT. MARINO’S HOME
Captain Jolivette : Mrs.Holden. I'm glad you're here.
Claudia Joy : Good morning, Captain Jolivette.
Captain Jolivette : Mrs.Holden's with the F.R.G.
Claudia Joy : Hi. This is roxy leblanc. What can we do?
Captain Jolivette : Uh, Mr.Jennings needs to get into the house to do a walk-through inspection, Mrs.Marino refuses to open the door. Now we have a key,and we could just let ourselves in, but none of us want it to come to that.
Claudia Joy : Neither do we. We'll talk to her, okay?
Captain Jolivette : Okay. Thank you.
Roxy : Delores? Delores,it's Roxy. Delores, this is Claudia Joy Holden. I called her 'cause I thought she could help.
MARINO’S HOME – Living room
Claudia Joy : Hi, Delores. It's nice to meet you.
Delores : I'm sorry, Mrs.Holden, I was hoping... but I won't let them in my house!
Claudia Joy : Once I let them in,that's it. It's over for me. They're not coming in. We're just gonna talk, okay? Why don't we all sit down? Now why don't you tell me what I can do?
Delores : You make them let me stay.
Claudia Joy : I can ask them to extend your stay, but we both know it'll only be temporary.
Roxy : How temporary?
Claudia Joy : A month, maybe two. So why don't you let the F.R.G.Help you? We can find you a place to live near a good school for your children. It can be right here in charleston if that's...
Delores : No! I need to stay in this house.
Claudia Joy : I know it must feel like leaving here means leaving him behind, and you're not ready for that.
Delores : No,I'm not.
Claudia Joy : Okay. Let me talk to you about your son... about javier. Roxy told me about him, what a great kid he is. He only has you now.
Delores : I'm trying to be strong for him. Really,I am. I just don't have it in me anymore.
Roxy : Oh,you do. I know you do.
Claudia Joy : I know, too. I see it just looking around the room. You need to move on to a new life for him. We'll be with you every step of the way.
HOLDEN’S HOME – Michael’s office
Michael : Oh, this can't be good.
Claudia Joy : Michael... have you talked to amanda about Jeremy?
Michael : Yes.
Claudia Joy : But, Michael, we can't protect her forever. At some point, we have to trust her judgment.
Michael : That's not gonna be the easiest thing to do. But I'll try. And the vacation?
Claudia Joy : She's not going. She wants to stay with Denise. But I can't let her do that. So I'm gonna stay behind with her.
Michael : No. No,we're a family.
Claudia Joy : We're always a family, but our kids are growing
Michael : Claudia joy, this is important to me.
Claudia Joy : I know it is. Being here with amanda is important to me,too. You have to let me win this one.
MORAN’S HOME – Living room

Pamela : No. Uh,you don't have to. Oh,my god. What am I doing?
Scott : Oh...I'm sorry. This is all my fault.
Pamela : No. No. I wanted to. I still want to. It's just all of a sudden you're here, and I feel... completely thrown. But I can't do this. As much as I want to... I can't. Who would've thought that I would be the good girl?
Scott : I did.

Roland : Uh,nothing. Sorry. I just got a lot on my mind.
Pamela : Is he okay?
Trevor : You have some really great stuff. Very eclectic taste.
Delores : Thank you. I go to garage sales.
Roxy : I hear you. My favorite designer's the goodwill. There you go.
Delores : Oh,what am I gonna do with all this stuff? I can't afford another truck. Should I just leave it out here?
Roxy : Take it from me,you don't wanna leave it on the lawn. That'd be a hell of a chit.
Trevor : Yeah,it would. Wait, hold on. You know,we need some furniture. Are you open for business?
Delores : Please, you don't have to do that.
Trevor : No,I'm serious. We need furniture.
Delores : Well,I wasn't gonna take my dining set. Sold!
Roxy : Hey,what about that lamp? You take 50 bucks for it?
Pamela : That lamp would be $200 in charleston. Come on.
Delores : Step off,lady!

Pamela : Hey,how much for the red chair?
Delores : For the red chair? I don't know. How much does it cost in charleston?
